The Maastricht Guitar Society is excited to present the Ukranian guitar phenom Marko Topchii in the groote zaal of the Gasthuis Calvarienberg, Abtstraat 2a. Marko is one of the most successful competition winners on the international circuit at the moment with more than 50 awards in competitions and a recent performance in Carnegie hall. The concert opener will be the Conservatorium Guitar classe’s own Alexander Feldman!

Marko has won more than 50 awards worldwide in the international guitar competitions in the professional category. Among them, 26 first places in the competitions in United States, Mexico, Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Indonesia, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Liechtenstein, Serbia and Ukraine. The most notable prizes is available in the “awards” section. He plays guitars made by Karl-Heinz Roemmich, Yuichi Imai, Sakurai Kohno and Hong Sik Uhm. Marko is a D’Addario artist since 2012. Marko actively performs around the world, regularly gives concerts with the orchestra; he is desired teacher of the master classes and constantly mentioned in the mass media. Marko Topchii was born into a family of musicians in Kiev, Ukraine and is started studying guitar at the age of four. He is 24 years old and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree at the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music in Kiev under the guidance of Prof. Yuri Alexik, Honored Artist of Ukraine. He completed his master degree in the National University of Arts in Kharkov in 2011, where he studied under Prof. Volodymir Dotsenko, Honored Artist of Ukraine. Na de eerste concerten van het project NEW GUITAR MUSIC in Oxford, Londen, Amsterdam en Utrecht, is het Studenten Gitaar Ensemble Nederland, o.l.v. Susana Opanski, klaar voor het tweede concert van deze serie: Innovators.
Voor dit concert ontmoet het ensemble de jonge talentvolle Nederlandse componist Aart Strootman. Aart is gitarist, docent en componist en hij heeft al veel prestigieuze prijzen op zijn lijst, zoals de Gaudeamus Award in september 2017. Afgelopen 26 mei heeft hij ook de Prix Annelie de Man gewonnen voor zijn compositie Anachronism #1. Benieuwd hoe zijn allerlaatste creatie, Anachronism#3 klinkt? Kom dan zaterdag 30 juni naar de Lutherse kerk in Utrecht waar het SGEN deze muziek, die Aart speciaal voor dit ensemble heeft gecomponeerd, zal uitvoeren.
Naast de wereldpremière van Anachronism #3, zal het ensemble ook muziek van verschillende vernieuwende componisten laten horen, zoals Philip Glass, Arvo Pärt, Andrew York en Django Reinhardt. Daarnaast speelt ook Aart Strootman solo’s op de gitaar. Dit alles bij elkaar geeft de luisteraar een bijzonder beeld van het moderne repertoire van de gitaar. Mis het niet!
Uit alle windhoeken van het land komen ze, de gitaristen van het Studenten Gitaar Ensemble Nederland. Wat ze verbindt is hun passie voor gitaarmuziek. Onder leiding van dirigent Susana Opanski is het ensemble, naast vele concerten in Nederland, ook in Spanje, Italië en Duitsland op tour geweest. Vorig jaar hebben ze hun eerste Cd uitgebracht : “Noches de guitarras”. In deze verzameling van klassiek, blues en natuurlijk ook veel Zuid-Amerikaanse muziek hebben ze geprobeerd het rijke en veelzijdige repertoire van de gitaar te laten horen.
Voor hun huidige programma: New Guitar Music, werken ze samen met prestigieuze gastmusici uit Nederland en uit het buitenland: het gitaar trio Vickers Bovey uit Londen, Aart Strootman, winnaar van de Gaudeamus Award 2017, en Pavel Steidl, wereldster gitarist uit Tsjechië.
